Dunboyne is a bustling town located in a county steeped in history and heritage. Dunboyne Castle built in 18th century is a mansion which replaced the old castle as the seat of the Butlers, Lords of Dunboyne. Hamwood is an 18th century house built in the Palladian style by Charles Hamilton in 1779. The house is surrounded by gardens dating from 1764. The gardens consist of the Pine Walk containing many fine specimen trees, the rose garden and walled garden containing the Serpentine walk garden. The village was burnt down in the 1798 rebellion.
