County Offaly
The county of Offaly is in the heart of Ireland and lies in the centre of the plains and bogland forming the midlands. The landscape is varied and beautiful with the Slieve Bloom mountains to the South, the River Shannon to the West and bogland in the centre.
It is a county rich in monastic heritage, clearly evident with the great monastic Clonmacnoise ruins, and ancient history, Cuchulainn and Fionn MacCumhaill hunted and fished in the central plains of Offaly.
County Offaly is seen to be comprising of three areas namely East Offaly, incorporating the Capital town of Tullamore, West Offaly, an area of beauty leading down to the Shannon and South Offaly, wonderful region including the picturesque town of Birr.
