Borris Town is located on the River Barrow in the South-East of Ireland in County Carlow. It is part of Ireland's Ancient East.
History of Borris
The town of Borris was once the Gate of Muster and was guarded by the now ruined Fitzpatrick Castle.
Borris House located in the town was once the primary seat of the Kings of Leinster since the 1500’s. The town prospered in the late 1800's as Arthur Mac Morrough Kavanagh, the landlord of the time, developed a sawmill and a lace-making industry. He also began the building of the 16-arch viaduct located at the edge of the town.
