Bantry County CorkBantry - BeanntraiBantry is a beautiful harbour town on the South Coast. Bantry town is steeped in history particularly due to its ease of access via the harbour. In 1689 a French fleet sailed into Bantry Bay with arms for James II in his war with William of Orange. In 1796 Bantry was again the destination of a French Fleet, in support of the Irish patriot, Wolfe Tone. Wolfe Tone was a founder member of the United Irishmen. Bantry House situated at the head of Bantry Bay is open to the public and is well worth a visit.
