A man in his 40s has died in hospital four days after an assault in Dublin city centre, Gardaí have confirmed. The incident happened on North Great Charles Street on Monday, August 10; the victim later died in the Mater Misericordiae Hospital on Friday, August 14.

Garda sources say the assault occurred on North Great Charles Street in Dublin 1 on the evening of Monday, 10 August. Authorities are asking anyone who was in the area between 10:00pm and 10:30pm and may have captured the incident on camera to come forward.
The man, aged in his 40s, was taken to the Mater Misericordiae Hospital following the assault. He died there from his injuries four days later.
Investigation under way
Gardaí have informed the offices of the Coroner and the State Pathologist. A postmortem examination is due to take place in due course to establish the medical cause of death.
A Senior Investigating Officer has been assigned to lead enquiries, and an incident room has been set up at Mountjoy Garda station. A Family Liaison Officer has also been appointed to support the deceased man’s relatives.

Investigators are appealing for witnesses and for anyone with footage — including dashcam — recorded in the area during the specified time to make it available to Gardaí.
