Gillian Quinn explains choosing to quit Botox in her fifties

Gillian Quinn says she stopped having Botox after she turned 50 and now relies on targeted skincare to maintain her appearance. The former model and current psychologist outlined the shift in approach while speaking at an Elave Skincare event at The Westbury Hotel in Dublin.

A new approach after years of cosmetic tweakments

Quinn, 54, described moving away from regular injectable treatments she used in her 30s and 40s. What once felt like a quick fix for ageing no longer suited her, she said, so she phased out those procedures after reaching her fifties.

Today she focuses on prevention and maintenance rather than repeated interventions. Her regimen centres on hydration, adequate sleep and products that promise genuine rejuvenation.

Skincare over shortcuts

At the event, Quinn said she now puts more effort into daily care and chooses formulations that deliver measurable results. She added that while products can help, they sometimes need to work harder as skin changes with age.

Skincare routines, she believes, are about consistency. Quinn also highlighted lifestyle basics — rest and moisture — as central to how she manages her skin now.

Personal background and perspective

Quinn recently completed a PhD in Psychology at Dublin City University, a milestone she mentioned during the appearance. She has been married to former footballer Niall Quinn for more than 30 years.

Bringing sun protection into the family

Quinn said she persuaded her husband to adopt sun protection after seeing the consequences of cumulative sun damage among men of his footballing generation. She noted that several contemporaries have needed growths removed because of skin damage and cancers.

Niall himself acknowledged the change in habits and agreed there comes a point when looking after your skin matters. The couple plan to be diligent about sunscreen while travelling soon to celebrate Niall’s sixtieth birthday.
