In a striking result, David Attenborough was named Best Presenter in his 100th year, interrupting the long run of Ant and Dec — a change voters have now made for the second year running. The award was accepted on his behalf by producer Mark Brownlow, who used his speech to underline the pressing risks of climate change.

Clarkson’s Farm was named Reality Docuseries. Jeremy Clarkson kept his acceptance brief and later revealed he had been in remission from prostate cancer, calling the experience “annoying” mainly because it cost him part of the harvest season.
The Bruce Forsyth Entertainment Award went to Michael McIntyre’s Big Show, presented onstage by Paris Fury and her daughter Valencia. Mrs Brown’s Boys won Best Comedy Show, a welcome return for Brendan O’Carroll after a broken jaw forced him to cancel this year’s festive specials.
Gogglebox took the Factual Entertainment prize, beating Stacey Solomon’s Sort Your Life Out. Drama winners included Call The Midwife as Best Returning Drama, Emmerdale as Best Serial Drama, and Jeff Hordley for Serial Drama Performance.
