Michael Healy‑Rae has been hospitalised after being assaulted while sitting in his car in Dublin, Gardaí say. The Kerry TD was attacked as he left Leinster House when the Dáil resumed this week, according to reports.
Incident and immediate care
Gardaí say the assault occurred while Mr Healy‑Rae was stopped in traffic on Cork Street in Dublin 8. He was taken to Kevin Street Garda Station where he received medical attention for injuries described as not life‑threatening.
An ambulance was later called to the Garda station to provide further treatment, RTÉ reported. Local officers attended the scene and the injured man was brought to the station for care.
Garda statement and investigation
In a statement to Extra.ie, Gardaí said: “Shortly after 4pm, on Tuesday 16th September 2026, Gardaí from Kevin Street responded to reports of an incident on Cork Street, Dublin. It is understood that a male motorist in his late 50s was approached and assaulted by a lone male while stopped in traffic.”
The statement added that the victim received medical treatment at Kevin Street and that his injuries are not life‑threatening. No arrests have been made so far.
Appeal for witnesses
Gardaí are asking anyone who saw the incident or who has information to come forward as the investigation continues.
