Mad Yolks has closed its Rathmines café, the popular Dublin breakfast and brunch spot confirmed on social media. The team said the closure was difficult but necessary as they concentrate operations at their Smithfield headquarters.
Rathmines location closes abruptly
In an Instagram post the café announced: “Unfortunately, we are sorry to announce that yesterday was our last day of trading in Rathmines.” The message added that the decision was not taken lightly.

“We loved our time in Rathmines, but now it’s time to refocus on our HQ in Smithfield,” the post said, thanking staff and customers for their support.
Responses from customers and staff
Patrons and former employees responded with messages of gratitude and sadness. Many said the Rathmines outlet will be missed, while others wished the team well and hinted at “exciting things” ahead.

The café also wrote: “A massive thank you to all our staff past and present, and most of all to our customers. We would never have got this far without you; we genuinely appreciate all the support over the last few years. You’re always welcome in Smithfield. RIP Mad Yolks Rathmines, gone but not forgotten.”
What Mad Yolks became known for
Founded in 2018 by brothers Hugh and Eoin O’Reilly, Mad Yolks built a reputation for egg-forward sandwiches and casual brunch fare. Its signature, the “Mad Yolk,” pairs scrambled eggs with chilli and chives, caramelised onion, applewood cheddar, rocket and sriracha mayo on toasted brioche.
Looking ahead
Although the Rathmines site has now shut, the brand’s Smithfield outlet remains open. The company’s stated plan is to concentrate efforts at that HQ while acknowledging fond memories of their Rathmines years.
