Fans celebrate as beloved Dublin café opens southside branch

Póg, the Dublin café best known for its protein pancake stack, will open a new outlet in Terenure this summer — the brand’s first confirmed move to the city’s southside. The announcement follows years of expansion across the northside and coastal suburbs, and answers repeated requests from southside customers.

From one shop to a local chain

Founded by Rachel Keane, Póg began life on Bachelor’s Walk in February 2014. The original site proved popular enough that Keane was able to buy out her initial backers, including family investors, and grow the business.

Today the café operates from several Dublin locations, including Bachelor’s Walk, Tara Street, Clontarf, Howth and Malahide. For many southside residents the move into Terenure will be the first opportunity to visit a Póg near home.

What the Terenure location will look like

The company shared a conceptual image of the new exterior that shows its trademark pastel pink and a small stretch of outdoor seating. The render evokes the brand’s familiar aesthetic and suggests space for customers to sit outside on fine days.

Póg posted on social media: “WE ARE COMING SOUTHSIDE. Póg no.7 is opening in TERENURE this summer.” The announcement added that the unit is under renovation and expected to open in six weeks.

In the same message the café wrote: “Halfway through the Year of the Horse, and we’re only getting started.” It also invited followers to follow the renovation updates as the fit-out progresses.

Reaction and other recent openings

Local responses online were enthusiastic. One Instagram user wrote: “This is soooo exciting!!!!!!!” Others welcomed the brand to the neighbourhood or said they “can’t wait.”

Earlier this summer Póg also revealed a new hatch-style outlet called The Bubble on Strand Road in Sutton. That smaller, grab-and-go venue was launched ahead of a period of warmer weather that is expected to draw families to coastal areas.

What this means for customers

For southside diners, the Terenure site provides closer access to Póg’s menu without a trip across the river. For the company, it represents a deliberate step into a new part of the city as it continues to expand its footprint.
