Newly married couple head back to Supermac’s where they first met

A Galway couple returned to the fast-food outlet where their romance began — and made sure it featured in their wedding photos. Claire and Conor Daly revisited Supermacs on the afternoon they married at the Loughrea Hotel on May 29.

How a late-night snack turned into a relationship

The couple first crossed paths 12 years ago in Galway, meeting for food after a night out at the local Supermacs. Claire told the Irish Independent she remembered the moment their eyes met.

“We literally just went out and happened to speak. I was with my friends, and he was with his. Conor’s brother did question where he had disappeared to, and then he eventually found out because we’ve stayed together ever since,” she said. Claire also laughed that Conor made the initial move, adding: “Every good love story starts in Supermac’s at the end of the day.”

Wedding day detour to a familiar place

After exchanging vows at the Loughrea Hotel, which the couple noted is also owned by Pat McDonagh, they decided to pop back to the Supermacs nearby for a photograph. “A couple of weeks before the wedding, we were kind of just figuring out where we were going for pictures. And because we had a reception in the Loughrea Hotel, which is also owned by Pat McDonagh, we said it would be funny to go back and take a photo outside Supermac’s, because it’s only five minutes away,” Claire told the paper.

Staff at the outlet offered the newlyweds food as a gesture, but the pair declined. “I was very conscious that we were going for dinner in the hotel on the day…They had canapés ready for us, and we didn’t want to spoil our dinner,” Claire said.

The stop at Supermacs was brief but symbolic — a low-key, personal moment amid the formalities of a wedding day. The couple posed outside the restaurant before heading to their reception.
