Michelin Guide highlights Ranelagh venue for its vibrant, high-energy charm

Parrilla, a Mexican restaurant on Sandford Road in Ranelagh, has been added to the Michelin Guide — a notable endorsement for the neighbourhood dining scene. The venue opened in 2024 and is run by restaurateur Jules Mak.

What the guide says

Inspectors described the Ranelagh venue as “lively, loud and simply wonderful fun.” They added: “As soon as you arrive, it gives off ‘hottest ticket in town’ energy, combining a pumping soundtrack with a room full of smiles from the team and guests alike.”

The review also recommends starting with a classic margarita and suggests ordering the padron peppers served with red pepper salsa.

Part of a growing portfolio

Jules Mak has been active in Dublin’s restaurant scene for more than a decade. He launched Mak in 2012; that venue closed its Ranelagh site and is scheduled to reopen at a new location later this summer.

Mak’s other projects include Wanderlust in Dalkey, Hush in Rathmines and Mak at Zozimus. The businessman has also revealed plans to open a Mediterranean-inspired restaurant called Fuoco, to occupy Mak’s former premises.

What inclusion in the guide actually means

Being listed in the Michelin Guide is an influential recommendation, but it is not the same as receiving a star or a Bib Gourmand. Those formal awards are announced at the guide’s annual ceremony, held at the start of each year.

Parrilla’s addition increases the number of listed establishments in and around Dublin to 53, underscoring the city’s continuing profile as a destination for diverse dining experiences.
