ASICS’ flagship store on O’Connell Street is offering free professional gait analyses to help runners find shoes that match their movement, goals and bodies. The service, showcased during a recent in-store event with endurance athlete Conor O’Keeffe, underlines how fit and function can matter more than colour or price when choosing trainers.
Why the right shoe can change every run
Many people pick running shoes by looks, brand loyalty or what’s on sale. But biomechanics make a real difference to comfort and performance over distance.

Conor O’Keeffe, who completed 32 marathons in 32 consecutive days to raise funds and awareness for mental health charities, says small differences at the foot translate into big effects further up the body. “Your feet take every single ounce of your body weight,” he told attendees. “They’re your connection to the road, to the trail and to every surface you’re running on.”
Personalised fittings start with gait analysis
At ASICS O’Connell Street, each fitting begins with a complimentary, professional gait analysis. Staff observe walking and running patterns to identify the support, cushioning and stability a runner needs.

That data helps ambassadors recommend models suited to an individual’s biomechanics rather than relying on guesswork. Conor put it simply: “Once you have your gait analysis done, you understand what type of shoe suits you.”
The result is a tailored match that online shopping cannot fully replicate. Customers can test different options and feel how a shoe performs before committing.
The new GEL-KAYANO 33 — incremental advances
During the event, runners previewed the ASICS GEL‑KAYANO 33, the latest iteration of the brand’s long-standing stability line. According to the company, the model builds on its predecessor with refined support systems and updated foams.
Key technical changes include new FLUIDSUPPORT technology for more adaptive stability, plus a dual-layer midsole combining FF BLAST MAX and FF BLAST PLUS foams aimed at a softer, more cushioned ride. An engineered mesh upper is said to improve breathability and flexibility.
Why an in-store visit still matters
Convenience has pushed footwear purchases online, but experts at the O’Connell Street store argue that runs start with the right fit. Staff guide customers through the fitting process, explain the technology behind different shoes and answer practical questions.

“I really feel that having a high street store with people who know more than you is incredibly valuable,” Conor said. He added that trustworthy shoes can make it easier to get out the door: “When you have a comfortable pair of runners that you actually enjoy wearing, it makes such a difference.”
A social media competition
To mark the GEL‑KAYANO 33 launch, ASICS is running a social media competition in which one winner will receive a pair. Entry mechanics on the brand’s channels involve liking, following and sharing the relevant post.
Practical takeaway
Whether you are training for a 5K, building marathon mileage or seeking everyday comfort, starting with a gait assessment can reduce the risk of an unsuitable purchase. As Conor put it: “Be kind to yourself. Running is there to give, not to take.”
