Significant new investment marks Portmarnock Resort’s 30th anniversary

Portmarnock Resort & Jameson Golf Links is celebrating its 30th year with a new investment programme that refreshes guest rooms, boosts wellness facilities and advances ongoing golf upgrades. The plans draw directly on the property’s origins as the Jameson family home while adding features aimed at year-round visitors.

Heritage rooms reopened to guests

The resort occupies the former Jameson family residence beside the famous Velvet Strand, a connection the hotel has kept at the centre of its identity. Elements of that past remain visible around the property, including the popular Jameson Bar, which nods to the estate’s founders.

As part of the anniversary programme, three bedrooms within the original house have been converted into guest accommodation. Period details such as original fireplaces and antique furniture have been preserved, and the premium Jameson deluxe rooms have been fitted to reflect the house’s historic character.

New outdoor pool and wellness facilities

Planning permission has been granted for a 10m x 5m heated outdoor pool, with building work due to begin shortly. The pool will be reserved for hotel guests and available all year.

The wider wellness upgrade will include sauna and steam rooms, creating a compact spa area intended to complement stays and short breaks rather than operate as a public health club.

Ongoing investment in the golf experience

The resort says it continues to invest in its championship course, adding specialist machinery and refurbishing the on-site pro shop to broaden its retail offering. Those changes follow a redesign completed in 2023.

The 18-hole, par-72 course — originally laid out by Bernhard Langer and Stan Eby — looks out over the coastline and was rebranded from Portmarnock Links to Jameson Golf Links after the redesign.

Events, dining and technology upgrades

Meeting and event spaces across the hotel have been updated, with new audiovisual equipment installed to support corporate and private bookings. These changes form part of a wider refresh intended to attract returning guests and new groups.

The resort also completed a full refurbishment of its main dining room, the Seaview, in 2025. Management says the combined improvements aim to keep the guest offer current while honouring the property’s long history.

Portmarnock’s anniversary programme couples conservation of the Jameson-era house with practical enhancements for guests, signalling a sustained push to position the resort as a coastal destination for golf, short breaks and events.
