Family-owned McKeever Hotels is investing £1.8 million (€2.1 million) to fully refurbish the bedrooms at The Lodge Hotel in Coleraine, a move the group says responds to rising tourism demand along Northern Ireland’s North Coast. The upgrade follows the company’s 2024 purchase of the property and forms part of a wider programme of reinvestment across its portfolio.
New look to meet growing demand
The capital injection has been used to redecorate and modernise every guest room, with designers aiming to raise comfort levels and align the hotel with McKeever’s wider offering. Company materials describe the work as central to plans to reposition The Lodge as a leading place to stay on the North Coast.
McKeever Hotels says the refurbishment also supports the group’s strategy to maintain high standards, protect local jobs and improve the visitor experience across its properties.
Rooting the hotel in the community
Since taking ownership last year, the group has prioritised stronger local ties alongside commercial development. The Lodge has introduced initiatives intended to welcome neighbours as well as tourists.
One example is the borough’s first Chatty Hotel, launched with the Causeway Loneliness Network to offer a dedicated space for conversation and to help address social isolation in the area.
Management response
Echoing the business case for the investment, Eddie McKeever, managing director of McKeever Hotels, said: “This investment reflects our long-term commitment to The Lodge Hotel and to the North Coast as a key tourism destination. Following an incredibly busy period during The Open, it was clear there is strong and sustained demand for high-quality accommodation in the area.”
He added that the upgrades will position the hotel to meet demand while providing a modern environment for both leisure and business visitors.
What guests can expect
Tracy Young, general manager at The Lodge, highlighted a steady stream of repeat guests — families on staycations, locals meeting up, and golfers visiting the region. “We’re really excited to welcome both new and familiar faces into our newly refurbished bedrooms, ensuring every stay at The Lodge feels comfortable, modern and truly memorable,” she said.
The investment is presented as one element of McKeever Hotels’ “We Do More” ethos, which the group says balances commercial growth with local engagement and customer care. For visitors to the North Coast, the refurbishment promises a more contemporary option for short breaks and business stays.
