Hollyoaks actress is dating co-star who plays her on-screen brother

Two actors from Channel 4’s Hollyoaks, Brook Debio and Chloe Atkinson, have confirmed a real-life relationship despite playing siblings on screen. Their off-screen romance — made public earlier this summer — contrasts sharply with a harrowing storyline their characters are currently navigating.

How the relationship began

Brook, 22, told Digital Spy that joining Hollyoaks changed his life in unexpected ways. He said he likely would never have met Chloe, 20, had he not taken the role — even though she lives only about 15 minutes from him in real life.

Joining a show can change lives — cast members often meet during rehearsals.

“If I didn’t join Hollyoaks, I probably wouldn’t have met my girlfriend Chloe,” he said. “Which is so weird because she actually lives about 15 minutes away from me in real life. So we’ve probably crossed paths, but we would never have known. And obviously we’ve met in Liverpool instead, which is so random.”

Recent additions to the cast

Both performers are recent arrivals on the soap. Chloe has assumed the role of Dee Dee, taking over from Lacey Findlow, who played the character for eight years.

Brook stepped into the role of Ant Hutchinson, succeeding William Thompson, who had been on the show for two years. The pair first appeared together on screen in October, during Hollyoaks’ 30th anniversary week.

On-screen drama: a difficult storyline

On screen, Dee Dee is being groomed by her teacher, Abigail Matthews, a storyline that has serious real-world echoes. Brook said his character’s response is rooted in protective instincts.

“Ant just wants Dee Dee to be safe, and it comes from an overprotective brotherly love,” he told Digital Spy.

Off-screen and on-screen lives diverge

The contrast between the actors’ off-screen relationship and their characters’ fraught family dynamic has attracted attention. For viewers, the pairing adds an extra layer of interest to the soap’s ongoing plots.

Both actors continue to appear on Hollyoaks as the storyline develops. Their real-life relationship remains separate from the show’s narrative, even as their characters navigate particularly sensitive scenes.
