He sustained a traumatic brain injury and died on Monday, three days after the crash.
Fundraiser to return him to Brazil
The deceased has been named locally as Saul Muniz. His family have launched a GoFundMe page to cover the substantial costs of transporting his body back to Brazil for burial.
The campaign message expresses deep sorrow and asks for support so Muniz can be laid to rest among relatives. It explains that repatriation expenses are high and asks people to donate or to share the appeal if they cannot contribute financially.
Organisers say the page has attracted more than 400 donors and has raised over €13,200. The original target of €10,000 was later increased to €14,000.
How colleagues remember him
Messages left online describe Muniz as warm and well regarded within the local community. Many contributors called him a good friend who helped others.
Eduardo Scandaroli, host of the Irlanda Talk Show podcast, told the Irish Sun he first met Muniz when the latter worked as a barber in 2015. Scandaroli said Muniz later became involved with the charity You in Africa, travelling to Kenya to train children and supporting football projects.
What happens next
Muniz’s family face the task of organising repatriation and funeral arrangements while the community continues to raise funds. Those wishing to help are asked to consult the GoFundMe page for updates and details.
