Met Éireann assesses likelihood of a new heatwave affecting Ireland

Ireland is set for another week of changeable weather, but not a renewed heatwave, Met Éireann says. Expect a mix of showers and dry spells, with most places staying in the high teens to low or mid-twenties.

What Met Éireann is forecasting

Forecasters warn of generally mixed conditions across the country, with “rain or showers at times but dry intervals too,” Met Éireann says. Temperatures will be uneven, typically cooler in the northwest and warmer in the south and east.

Overall, the agency does not signal a heatwave for the coming week. Instead, conditions should remain largely pleasant for outdoor plans that can tolerate occasional showers.

Daily highlights

Monday will begin warm and humid. Western Connacht and north Ulster should see around 17–19°C, while other areas may climb to about 25°C. Showers will develop later, with rain likely to spread overnight.

Tuesday will bring a fair amount of cloud and scattered showers early on, although sunnier spells are expected to return by afternoon. Night-time looks mainly dry, with only a few lingering showers in parts of the west and northwest.

Showers intensify by Wednesday morning, first in the west and northwest before spreading more widely. Rain may be heavier in places as the day progresses.

Thursday should feel cooler and fresher. There will be sunny breaks, but scattered showers will continue to pop up. Friday then moves back toward drier conditions, with only the odd shower interrupting otherwise settled weather.

The weekend appears to mirror the weekday pattern: mostly dry with the occasional shower rather than prolonged rain or sustained high temperatures.

Looking beyond the week

In the extended outlook Met Éireann expects a gradual shift from summer towards autumn. The forecaster notes that “above average temperatures are signalled along with slightly wetter than average conditions,” suggesting mild, changeable weather rather than a sustained warm spell.

For most people, that means comfortable days interspersed with rain — not the intense hot conditions associated with a heatwave. Keep a light waterproof handy when planning outdoor activities.
