A driver already banned from the road was arrested in Wexford on Saturday evening, 15 August, after Gardaí on patrol spotted him driving and discovered what appears to be a tampered insurance disc on the windscreen.
Stop signal ignored, vehicle seized
Members of the Wexford Roads Policing Unit were on routine patrol when they identified a car being driven by a person who was disqualified from driving. Gardaí signalled for the vehicle to stop, but the driver initially failed to comply.

The vehicle was eventually brought to a halt. The driver was arrested at the scene and the car was seized by Gardaí.
A blemished insurance disc
Officers also noticed a marking on the windscreen that suggested the vehicle’s insurance disc had been altered. An image circulated by An Garda Síochána appears to show the disc’s date amended with a black marker.
Gardaí even described the defaced disc as a kind of “work of art,” saying the alteration was quickly spotted and did not help the driver’s case.
Charges and Garda warnings
The driver has been charged with a number of offences and is due to appear before Wexford District Court.
Gardaí reminded the public that, “Being disqualified from driving means exactly that: you cannot legally drive on a public road.” They added that “attempting to evade Gardaí will only result in further offences and potentially more serious consequences.”
On the subject of insurance, the force warned: “If you don’t have valid insurance, altering or falsifying an insurance document is certainly not the solution and can lead to further criminal charges.” They closed with a simple instruction: “If you are disqualified, do not drive.”
