Woodford is set in a beautiful wooded area with the Slieve Aughty Mountains in the background. In the area Wilfred Scawen Blunt was arrested in 1887 for organising a Mass Protest of the tenents on the Clanricarde estates. His book In Vinculis describes his experiences.
