Trappe, who taught at St. Mary’s, Threemilehouse in County Monaghan, confirmed on Wednesday that she handed in her resignation after much reflection. She said the choice was far from easy and described an emotional process when preparing the letter.
“Three years ago, I took a career break from Primary Teaching. Today I visited my school and officially resigned from my teaching post,” she wrote. She added that she “cried every time” she tried to write the letter, but felt it was time to “pass on the baton.”

Despite stepping away, Trappe left the door open to a future return. “I adore working with kiddos in every capacity, and I can see myself back in the classroom acting the maggot, but not just yet,” she said, expressing gratitude to colleagues who supported her while she explored new opportunities.
Public life and personal milestones
Trappe’s resignation comes amid a period of heightened public attention. She appeared on Dancing With The Stars and has grown a substantial online following since leaving teaching temporarily.
Earlier this year she announced her engagement to Tom, a fellow teacher; the couple revealed their plans in January after two years together. More recently, Trappe orchestrated a surprise at Olivia Dean’s Marlay Park concert, where the singer helped her invite her sister-in-law-to-be, Mary, to be a bridesmaid.
In closing her announcement, Trappe thanked school staff for their support and signed off with “Grá mór,” describing the day as bittersweet.
