Practical Magic 2 trailer lands and leaves viewers spellbound

The long-awaited sequel to the 1998 film Practical Magic has returned to view with a new trailer, reuniting its original stars and reminding audiences why the first film attracted a devoted following. Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman lead the cast as the Owens sisters once more, as the story prepares for a 2026 release.

The 1998 original won over viewers with its blend of supernatural drama and sisterhood, later achieving cult status. Critics and fans often point to its feminist undertones, its memorable soundtrack — including songs by Stevie Nicks and Faith Hill — and the film’s distinctive 1990s wardrobe of flowing skirts and velvet.

The movie centres on sisters Sally and Gillian Owens, raised by their aunts after the death of their parents. Their family history is haunted by a curse that, in the original story, doomed any man who fell in love with an Owens woman.

The newly released trailer offers fresh glimpses of the sequel while keeping many plot details under wraps. It suggests the sisters will confront a renewed, darker threat to their family, with familiar elements of spellwork and magical conflict returning to the foreground.

Practical Magic 2 draws from Alice Hoffman’s follow-up novel, The Book of Magic, and expands the story world. Alongside Bullock and Kidman, the cast includes Maisie Williams and Joey King, with Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest reprising roles as the Owens aunts, Franny and Jet.

Release date set for 11 September 2026

The studio has scheduled the sequel to open on 11 September 2026. The trailer’s appearance has reignited interest among long-time fans who have followed the film since its 1998 debut.

While the production has kept many specifics confidential, the combination of returning leads, key supporting players and source material from Hoffman has positioned Practical Magic 2 as one of the more anticipated nostalgic returns on next year’s release calendar.
