Spaghetti Arms — a Belfast eatery that grew from a street hatch into a popular sit-down restaurant — is closing its dining room, the co-owners have announced. Michelle and Leigh‑Anne said the decision was painful but confirmed the original hatch on Union Street will remain open to customers.
From a hatch to a neighbourhood fixture
What began as a small takeaway counter on Union Street later expanded into a sit‑in venue in 2021, drawing regulars and wider attention, including praise from TV presenter Gok Wan. Over the past years the spot became known for its relaxed atmosphere and loyal following across Belfast.

Owners pay tribute to staff and customers
In a joint statement the pair described the move as “one of the hardest decisions” they have made and spoke of deep gratitude for the team and the community that supported them. They said the restaurant had become more than a business — a second home where birthdays, anniversaries and everyday gatherings were celebrated.

Their message singled out staff for praise, thanking them for long hours, loyalty and the personal commitment that helped build the venue’s reputation. They added that while the dining room will close, the relationships and memories formed there will endure.
Reaction from the community
News of the closure prompted dozens of responses on social media from customers expressing sadness and support. Many described the restaurant as a local loss, while others thanked the owners and staff for years of service.
Some regulars welcomed the news that the hatch will stay open, relieved that at least part of Spaghetti Arms’ offering — and familiar menu items — will continue to be available on the street.
What stays and what changes
The co-owners confirmed the hatch on Union Street will keep operating for takeaways. Beyond that, they did not outline further plans for the site or for future projects, focusing their public message on thanks and farewell.
