Announcement on social media

The café posted the message early in the week, telling followers that the closure is planned and not sudden. In their statement they wrote: “This will be the last week we will be operating. Friday the 14th will be our last day that @bowls_cafe_raheny will be open.”

Reason for closing

Owners said the decision has been under consideration for some time. They explained that Andy has been having problems with his back and has been advised to spend less time on his feet.

They added that, despite the difficulty of the choice, they are glad to be ending the chapter on a positive note: “We have loved the past nearly 7 years in Raheny and are really happy that we are finishing on a positive note.”

Farewell week and menu highlights

During their final week the café plans to serve many of its staples. The post promised “loads of burritos and bowls” and an effort to include as many of customers’ favourite specials as possible.

Bowls Café Raheny described its offering on its website as an attempt to reshape café culture with nutrient-rich bowls and fresh salads, sourcing locally grown produce and naturally raised proteins. Regular menu items included a burrito bowl with slow-cooked pulled pork, spicy chicken or barbecue beans, a California burrito with spicy chicken breast, and halloumi flatbread.

Local response

The announcement drew dozens of reactions from regulars and neighbours. Many commented on the loss to the village and expressed regret that the café will be gone.

Typical responses included: “Ah, sorry to hear. It’s been a great spot for the village,” and “You will be missed so much in Raheny.”
